SMART Toronto Hotel

Architecture and Interior Project

Group: Kayla Wallace & Noor Al-Assali

Project Outline

In the heart of Downtown Toronto, the SMART Toronto Hotel serves the community as a futuristically driven hotel design with the intent to facilitate an effortless stay while having a connection to the city. Authenticity in the design and preserving the heritage building (Quantum Coffee) at 460 King Street West, was the catalyst in combining the old and the new as the bases of the concept.

Concept Statement and Model

The concept of this project was to follow the idea of popping in and out of a space. It is about travelling and exploring the city. The model is made of out different coloured wood to signify the surrounding buildings made at different times. The ramps within the model is for the ball to run down from side to side but relates to steps you take within trying to go to your hotel room. The ball then rolls out into the platform that stops from 2 blocks of wood representing King and Spadina.
